Hostel Review – Rock Solid Backpackers, Rotorua, New Zealand

Rock Solid Backpackers

Sum it up: Updated hostel with great social spaces.

My length of visit (for your reference): 1 night

Cost: $18 NZD ($13 USD)/night for a 4 person dorm

Hostel Basics:

  • WiFi: Yes.
  • Breakfast: No.
  • Guest-Use Kitchen: Yes, quite large.
  • Bar/Kitchen: No.
  • BYO: Yes.

Location: Easy to access location in the center of town.

I just came in for the night before heading South, so can’t say much about the location relative to the rest of town, but it was easy to find, and easy to find parking.

Airport Transfers: No.

Hostel Overview: Would you go back? For sure! I wish I had stayed longer. The hostel was super clean with a great vibe. The sheets felt new, which is a special treat! Everything was well looked after and felt fresh, rather than an old hostel with everything used over. The staff was friendly and offered information on visiting Wai-O-Tapu, including important departure time. There were two lounges, one for regular time, and for late night, another lounge so that people can stay up, but also not disturb others who want to sleep – clever!! Outlets everywhere and lights at the bed.

Pros/Cons: All pros, I wish I stayed longer!
