Hostel Review – Harbourside City Backpackers, Tauranga, New Zealand

Harbourside City Backpackers

Sum it up: Hotel location on a hostel budget. Right in the middle of everything.

My length of visit (for your reference): 1 night

Cost: $32 NZD ($23.04 USD)/night for a 4 person dorm

Hostel Basics:

  • WiFi: Yes, you get 1 hour log in/log out.
  • Breakfast: No.
  • Guest-Use Kitchen: Yes, pretty great size, with a rooftop deck.
  • Bar/Kitchen: No, but right on the main drag of restaurants/bars.
  • BYO: Yes.

Location: Looks like it would be a waterfront hotel location. Right in the middle of everything.

Easy to get to from the freeway, quick to get to everything else. The location alone is a major selling point and made me want to stay.

Airport Transfers: Yes.

Hostel Overview: Would you go back? I’d really like to.

This was a pretty quick overnight for me, but once I saw that it was in the heart of a pretty cool marina area, I wished I was staying longer. It was a quick trip to the beach and seems like there is so much to do in Tauranga. The hostel even offers bikes to explore and has a ton of different activities that they’ll connect you with.

Need to Know: Parking is hit or miss, and you have to pay during the day.

Pros/Cons: Great location, good kitchen, outlets everywhere. 1 hour WiFi.
